Marion, my mother-in-law, is in her “senior years”, lives alone and is unable to prepare her own meals.
After her daughter, my wife, Wendy, passed away in 2020, Marion's Meals started to evolve as I was assuming more responsibility for shopping and cooking for Marion.
This offers a wide selection of frozen Soups, Sides and Main Meals to Marion - and a few sweet treats - but with recipes that many others have enjoyed over the years.
1. Meals are quick and easy to prepare in batches in a domestic kitchen
2. Recipes use minimal, and common, ingredients.
3. Meals use low-cost ingredients.
4. There are no specialist ingredients that you would not find in a typical store cupboard.
5. We are able to buy ingredients from the local supermarket
6. We encourage the use of fresh vegetables.
7. The dishes are easy to eat and digest for anyone that does not have strong bite or robust stomach
8. Meals do not have any strong flavours or “heat” from spices
9. Meals are suitable for freezing
10. Meals are easy to reheat and serve
Thanks to Susan Brown who unknowingly inspired me to write Marion’s Meals and who helped me over the years with testing so many of the recipes.
The first edition of Marion's Meals (in print) was dedicated and gifted to Susan on her 60th birthday, 11th April 2022.
Thanks also to “my maw” for giving me the help as a child to understand the benefits and methods for this style of cooking.
Thanks finally to Helen, Adam and Douglas for their suggestions, support and motivation, to help me complete Marion’s Meals.
I approach cooking with an emphasis on family-style meals that are simple to make and suitable for freezing.
I have been cooking for a long time, but that doesn't mean that you need a ton of experience to follow my recipes. I work to make my recipes accessible for beginners but still practical for experienced cooks. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask by sending a message or posting a comment.
I have been amateur cooking for decades; for family, for Scout Camps & Jamborees and as the part-time volunteer cook at a Golf Club.
When not in my kitchen, I'm often in my garden tending to a large range of fruits and vegetables that are suited to our climate
